Scrapping your car in the UK has never been simpler, but knowing the right process can mean the difference between getting a fair price and leaving money on the table. This guide covers everything you need to know.
Step 1: Get a Quote
Contact EUROSCRAP for a free, no-obligation quote. The value of your scrap car depends on its weight, the current price of steel and non-ferrous metals, and whether any parts can be resold. We provide quotes within hours.
Step 2: Notify the DVLA
Before scrapping, you must notify the DVLA at gov.uk. You will need your V5C logbook. Once notified, you will receive a refund for any remaining months of vehicle tax.
Step 3: Get a Certificate of Destruction
When your vehicle is collected, the ATF must issue a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). This proves the car has been legally scrapped and removes your liability. EUROSCRAP works exclusively with licensed ATFs and provides a CoD with every vehicle we process.
What Metals Are Recovered?
A typical car contains steel, aluminium, copper wiring, lead batteries, catalytic converters (platinum group metals), zinc, and more. Modern vehicles are over 80% recyclable by weight.
